Summary

My experience with the Cary Police Department Cadet Program confirmed that law enforcement is the career I want to pursue. From the beginning, I developed a genuine passion for policing and looked forward to every opportunity to learn from the officers and instructors around me. Through hard work and dedication, I was promoted to Cadet Sergeant within my first month in the program, a responsibility that I took very seriously. I worked to lead by example, support other cadets, and maintain a professional standard at all times.

Throughout the program, I gained valuable hands-on experience and exposure to many aspects of law enforcement, including report writing, traffic stops, officer safety, radio communications, arrest procedures, handcuffing techniques, firearm safety, and scenario-based training. I participated in realistic exercises that challenged me to think critically, communicate effectively, and work as part of a team under pressure.

One of the most rewarding parts of the program was building relationships with officers and learning directly from experienced law enforcement professionals, including Sergeant Brian Ready. Through ride-alongs, training exercises, and mentorship, I gained a deeper understanding of what it means to serve a community with integrity, professionalism, and compassion.

The Cadet Program strengthened my leadership abilities, communication skills, and commitment to public service. More importantly, it made me fall in love with the profession and reinforced my desire to dedicate my career to protecting and serving others as a police officer.
