Given my substantial depth of experience among a range of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code subjects, I was a resource for internal legal staff and consultants.
This was accomplished through manned phone, lines, a formal email tick system and ultimate resolution by the legal department. I was utilized as a member of each level.
Responsible for various documentation, fillings and negotiations under the Employee Plan Compliance Resolution System. Involved from start to finish. This required managing complex tasks, keeping organized records and meeting multiple deadlines.
Researched and interpreted laws, rulings and regulations to advise clients on their qualified and non-qualified plans.
Drafted nonqualified deferred compensation plans and also worked with clients and their advisors to resolve errors under Internal Revenue Code 409A through the use of IRS Notice 2008-113.
Developed strong working relationships with various Agents and their Managers in the IRS.
Designed, drafted, and advised on a panoply of qualified and nonqualified plans.
Developed the ERISA Administrative Department. ESOPs were not originally recognized for their uniqueness and the unique body of laws that do not apply to other qualified retirement plans. Combined the responsibility of all ESOPs into one unit. Under this unit, we drafted documents, obtained determination letters, if necessary, consulted with clients on their issues and performed the annual administration of these plans. Every ESOP document was reviewed prior to administration and the ESOP allocations were reviewed to ensure correctness and sync with the document. I personally reviewed each ESOP allocation for correctness.
Lead weekly training classes approved by ASPAA for continuing education providing an avenue for legal updates as well as the training of newly hired employees.
The legal group was responsible to help resolve issues and questions from the sales staff, the consultants (who maintained their own client base) and the administrative staff.
Delivered exceptional customer service by implementing best practices and fostering a culture of accountability within the department.
