Nizar Alsaidi

one of the youngest Imams in North Carolina. I have to lead prayer for the whole Muslim population in Lumberton, North Carolina. I also serve as a symbol of hope and motivation for the next generation of young Muslim believers to take initiative. Not only a symbol of motivation for younger Muslims, but also motivation for Muslims of all age take embrace change. I had dreamed of becoming the Imam at my mosque through many discriminating people from within the mosque. They didn't want me to become Imam due to my age as they thought I was not a good fit since I couldn't speak Arabic very well. Nevertheless, they discriminated me and judged me for what they knew and not for what they didn't know. Even the Sheikh questioned my abilities to become Imam but he had let me do it for one prayer. After I completed the prayer and had got up everyone looked at me with awe of my abilities. This comes to show not to judge a book by its cover. This was my journey on becoming Imam.

I was required to take religious classes for about 2-3 hours a week. These classes primarily focused on my proficiency in the Arabic language, good recitation of the Holy Quran, and General Islamic studies. I've earned 3 certificates: 2 for my proficiency in recitation of the Quran and being on the elite level of tajweed ( very strict rules on how to read the holy book) and another certificate for fully reading the Holy Quran.
