Accomplishments

  • I feel one of my most significant accomplishments has been the continued growth of UNC Health in the Chatham County Market. By maintaining an open line of communication with Chatham Hospital and UNCPN, advocating for additional services for Primary Care and Specialists. The growth has been remarkable. I began in 2011 with 22 Primary Care Providers and one Cardiologist. The provider count is now at 72, and the clinics include 3 primary care practices, 1 Urgent Care, and 18 specialty clinics.
  • I developed, hired, implemented, and managed the UNCPN Pre-Billing Coding Team. The Pre-Billing Coding Team was created in 2017 to provide coding, compliance, and denial oversight for all UNCPN practices that had transitioned to EPIC. We had experienced a decrease in billing, and therefore, there was a clear need for coding assistance. This team's success was tremendous, with the group identifying an increase in charges of $4,568,970.00 by their 2nd year. Due to the success of this team and the need for the services at UNC, this team was absorbed by the UNC Coding and Compliance team in 2020.
  • When UNC Chatham Hospital decided to increase the surgical suites and surgeries performed at Chatham, I was asked to develop one of the first UNC hoteling clinics designed to improve patient services available in rural areas and drive surgeries to Chatham Hospital First, I surveyed the providers in the community to establish needs. Next, I met with SOM department heads to determine who would be interested in expanding into Chatham County and fostered these relationships. Finally, I designed the clinic floorplan hired and arranged hands-on training at the SOM for each clinical/administrative staff member to train with each specialty providing services at the clinic. This clinic model proved successful, and Chatham Hospital asked if I could complete the same model during the planning stages of the Chatham Park MOB in Pittsboro. As a result, the Specialty Clinic at Pittsboro was constructed and continues via a management fee agreement between Chatham and UNCPN that generates $240,000 annually in management fees.
  • I partnered with UNC Chatham Hospital to develop the COVID outreach strategy. I planned, hired, scheduled, and operationalized drive-thru testing, vaccinations, car side triage, and provider visits as patient acuity demanded. This service was offered and participated in by residents of this rural community, local meat processing plants, and farms in Chatham and surrounding counties.
  • I met and consulted with the Medical Director and Practice Manager at North Chatham Pediatrics and IM regarding the need for a pediatric COVID testing and treatment site in the western region of UNCPN. I presented the idea of a Pediatric RDC within the North Chatham practice and gained approval from our clinical team. This RDC was no additional cost to the organization as we rotated existing providers and staff daily. In addition, pediatricians saw the children, and the practice received an enormous reaction of gratitude from parents across the western region. Therefore, improving access and patient satisfaction scores for Chatham and surrounding counties.
  • When UNC Healthcare announced they would no longer be assisting UNCPN with float staff, I was asked to help by providing a solution. I researched, developed, and presented to our leadership a Flex Staffing Plan for all of UNCPN. This plan is a 95 % core staffing and a 5% flex staffing plan driven by the number of existing providers and employees in each county. All staff will be full-time UNCPN staff who are well trained and walk into a clinic with the knowledge required to be of immediate assistance. The Flex Staffing Plan is being budgeted and operationalized in July of 2022.
  • Held meetings with MDs at each newly planned facility during the preplanning phase of facility builds to determine needs. As a result, I designed floorplans with equipment placement as determined to best meet the needs of each clinic location. I then met with the architect to ensure all clinical and operational requirements were met. Therefore, reducing the expense for change orders throughout the construction process.
