Contractor to help support the Network Field Services team in the installation of CAT5/6 network cabling (80%), fiber optic cabling, IP camera systems and network switch installations (20%).
Traveled throughout the state to install the physical infrastructure to NCDOT and NCDMV buildings
Termination and testing of CAT 5/6 and fiber optic cabling was the primary role
Site lead for up to 6-8 techs on-site, sometimes more depending on the size of the job. Mentored newer techs in the field
Provide daily reports to project manager, general contractor and customer
Properly terminate copper cable (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.)
Properly terminate common types of fiber optic fittings (SC, ST, LC) efficiently and to industry, manufacturer and AFL standards
Complete Telecom Room build-outs including rack construction, ladder rack installation, wire management and backboard construction.
Configure and set-up test equipment to perform all required tests on each category of copper media and fiber optic types
Ground and bond all applicable components according to project scope of work, local and national codes and industry standards
Apply NEC and local building codes to ensure that no violations are being performed on assigned projects
Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plan and conduct visual site inspections
Lead tech after 2.5yrs
Physically install a variety of cable types to include Cat 5, Cat 6, coax, fiber, access control and various types of speaker and sound masking cables
Supervise up to 6 techs on site, train newer techs on proper installation of various equipment, cable types and terminations and company standards
Install outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards
Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures
Terminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectors
Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required
Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems
Removal and demolition of abandoned cables
Maintain and reference industry standards including ANSI, BISCI, EIA/TIA, and local and Low Voltage Code
Assisted senior techs with installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems
Hang j hooks, pull cable, install and label faceplates, separate cable, terminate copper
