Rotation that placed an emphasis on understanding the future impacts on healthcare that pharmacogenomic testing will have. Helped with patient outreach and teaching doctors the possible benefits of these tests.

  • VA of Western New York Healthcare Systems - Critical Care Rotation

Worked on the ICU pharmacy team. Reviewed patient profiles and collaborated with ICU pharmacist every

morning before rounds on recommendations for the ICU medical team. Attended rounds with medical team,

answering questions on medications by both the medical residents and patients.

  • Pine Pharmacy - Advanced Compounding Rotation

Compounded hundreds of different non-sterile drug products including capsules, mini tabs, solutions,

suspensions, creams, suppositories and troches. Reviewed compounding regulations and drug information

with pharmacists.

  • Erie County Medical Center - Family Medicine Rotation

Collaborated with one other pharmacy student to act as the pharmacist in charge of the family medicine team.

Every morning would review around 10 patient profiles each and come up with recommendations to give to the

medical team. Attended daily rounds and did separate pharmacy only rounds afterwards. Performed discharge

counseling for all family medicine patients.

Collaborated with pharmacy team to maximize the number of prescriptions filled while optimizing patient care.

Daily tasks involved helping technicians fill prescriptions while helping the pharmacist with patient counseling,

doctor calls, and prescription transfers. After rotation ended the pharmacy manager of the store offered me a

job as a pharmacy intern for my final year of pharmacy school.

Presentations

  • "Critical Care Case Presentation: Propofol Infusion Syndrome"

Presented to the pharmacy staff at the VA of Western New York in March 2019. Looked at a patient that had been diagnosed with propofol infusion syndrome during his stay in the ICU. Reviewed the drug, the condition and went over if the diagnosis was appropriate.

  • "The COMPASS TRIAL: CAD and PAD Dosing"

Presented to the pharmacy staff at the Erie County Medical Center in December 2018. Reviewed the COMPASS trial and went over the pros and cons of using Xarelto. Discussed the findings of the trial and the recommended dosing of Xarelto for these conditions.
