Summary
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, I attended Meadowfield Elementary and Hammond Academy. After graduating from The University of South Carolina in 1990, I relocated to Walterboro, SC and remained there as a music teacher and Assistant Principal for 28 years. Teaching and developing relationships with my students and their children throughout my career was truly a privilege. Since retiring in 2018, I took a break from education to do other things close to my heart such as being a nanny and taking care of the elderly. Since joining the staff at Surry Central High School in 2024, I realized that I still think as an administrator even in my current job. Above all, my greatest joy is the interaction with the students. Above and beyond my duties as front office manager, I am constantly seeking to make personal connections with students, especially those who are struggling. Making students feel safe and heard ultimately leads to better performance at school.

Being the first person that you meet when you come in the door, my first responsibility is to create a warm environment for parents, students and visitors. I am also responsible for keeping track of students who are signing in or signing out. Safety is an absolute priority in every aspect of my job. I help maintain the security of all students by monitoring people who come into the school. I also do my part to protect students and make sure that when they are signing out that they are going with an appropriate person. Being a former administrator, I do my best to head off issues or alert administrators to potential problems. It is very important to me that anyone who comes into our building feels welcomed.
