  • Community Employment Specialist
Department of Health and Human Services | September 2019 - Present | 6 years 7 months | Murdoch Developmental Center Vocational EnterpriseMy current role at Murdoch Development Center (MDC) is Supported Employment Specialist at Vocational Enterprises. This role requires me to interact, with a variety of people, inside MDC and around the surrounding counties out in the community. I personally make sure we have a wonderful rapport with the businesses that allow us to employ Murdoch at their business establishment. My role is an independent role which requires excellent organizational and prioritizing skills. My responsibilities are but are not limited to supplying detailed instruction, direct training and supervision to the people we serve at the center. If problematic situations arise, I must take responsibility for making decisions for the best interest of the people we serve at MDC and all others involved. Administrative, performance and general documentation are an important and needed responsibility in my role.
I complete and review worker timesheets, accident/incident reports and job evaluations as well as compose, keep the required contracts of all jobs within my department. I have years of experience with behavior management techniques, task analysis and teaching strategies with ID/DD individuals. I assisted the people I also assist with yearly assessments and helping the team find the right job contract for each person that works on an SEP job contract. I also help with end of month billing, invoices, collect payments, and ensure client monies are given to the billing department.
Each month we set goals and work diligently to meet/exceed our client goals. To be successful, our clients must supply a point of contact to ensure each party has a clear understanding of the work we are contracted to perform. This aids us in how to schedule and accommodate our clients.
To ensure proper scheduling, time sensitive requests, turnarounds and the completion of our work we must communicate effectively within MDC. Communication is essential to ensure our days run smooth and efficient. We must collaborate with MDC division directors and supervisors to make sure we have a variety, of people we serve at the center, on our different job sites. By knowing each person, we serve at the center, we know how to aid them in achieving the perfect fitting employment opportunity. This talent is acquired by the years of experience I have collaborating with the people/population we serve. The characteristics of the people we serve, at the center, must be at or above a level of obtaining public employment at various clients/businesses outside of MDC.
The SEP department and my role as a Lead community employment Specialist is an important part of Murdoch Center. Constant communication, mindfulness, flexibility, and organizational skills are imperative to conduct the daily employment of the people we serve ensuring their day is as fun and profitable for them as it can be.

Department of Health and Human Services | May 2016 - September 2019 | 3 years 4 months | Murdoch Center Parkview Cottage

I was a HCTI for Parkview Cottage. My priority at work was to provide excellent customer service to the people we serve. I have assisted with covering the phones, helped with filling and started the process of new employee orientation on the first few days of employment in the absence of the preceptor. I loved spending my day assisting the people we serve in all aspects of daily living and accessing client needs. One of my duties at Parkview was being in charge of the VE work schedule. I assist in getting everyone to work and back on time and prepared for a busy day. Being back up HCTII was another of my duties if needed during staff shortage/call outs. I have years of experience with behavior management techniques, task analysis and teaching strategies with ID/DD individuals. I assisted the people we serve with program library methods and programing of various degrees on a daily basis. I was a go to person for evaluating the persons we serve with regard to dementia and the progress or lack of over a 6 to12 month period with Kim Miller(Phycologist). I was very resourceful at using the computer. I have experience with multiple computer programs. Time management skills and multitasking are one of my many strengths. I am able to communicate with all levels of staff in person, phone and in email with a professional and friendly attitude. I love working here at MDC and with 17 years with the state and several different agency's this is my home!
