My time as a Camp counselor how to manage a life outside of just track and school. Growing up being in a school with the same people all my life has conditioned me to be myself around individuals im familiar with. When i started as a counselor it was a cultural shock for me because I was treated as an adult, had to meet new people, and take care of 20+ kids at a time. First, I had to be able to hold myself accountable for the mistakes I made. Second, I had to gain more confidence in my interactions with co-workers and kids and when it came to my decision-making. Lastly, I had to improve my group management skills, ensuring I built relationships with my kids and keeping them safe.
