Beyond my pastoral and counseling training and experience, I bring a life time of, as well as, recent eclectic experiences which I believe strengthen my unique abilities for the role of chaplain.

Since retirement I have:

  • Trained and held licensure to the Brokers level in real estate with an interest in investment real estate.
  • Finally, I have had the joy of discovering my latent skills as a florist through a part time job at Ingles Grocers.

I enjoy sharing information, as appropriate, to help others find the resources they need to make sound decisions and/or face difficult times. I feel my unique experiences are amazing "fodder" both for hospice ministry and a growing organization.

Beyond this in graduate school, I lived abroad for a year, speak German conversationally and as such I have a hands on appreciation of cultural diversity.

Pastor, Retired

Presbyterian Church USA
08.1980 - 10.2020
  • I served seventeen years in fulltime parish ministry, then transitioned to fulltime counseling while retaining part time parish ministry throughout my career life.
  • In my role as pastor, I provided support to persons through prayer, spiritual and pastoral counseling, visitation, and ministries of compassion such as help with light bills, rides to medical appointments, or simply "holding space" for friend or relative in need.
  • I led worship and officiated special services such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, and nursing home services.

Counselor, Academic Advisor

Middle Tennessee State University
08.1996 - 02.2017
  • Met one on one, and at times in groups, in personal counseling with students around life events, career, personal issues such as grief, abuse, addictions and crisis triage.
  • Met weekly for six months with the staff psychiatrist during his client intakes to enhance diagnostic skills and also received relevant trainings such as First Responders, Free Will Therapy, Deescalation of Workplace Violence, Spirituality in Education, Multi-cultural Awareness, Sexual Abuse, and Myers Briggs to name a few
  • In 2011, transitioned to Academic Advising where focused more on academic progress and career discernment and less on crisis counseling; but often found the same tools were helpful for a student seeking their path.
