  • Created an anonymous database from existing medical records of patients across the country who were transported using helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS).
  • Collected data during HEMS patient documentation within integrated software from Golden Hour Data Systems, Inc using an information management service that integrates clinical and dispatch data on "cloud-based" servers managed by the electronic medical record (EMR) providers.
  • Compiled the HEMS data consisting of over 860,000 patient records using International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) and other diagnostic identifiers.
  • Filtered through the data and created a more comprehensive database consisting of only cardiac arrests to analyze discrepancies in HEMS transport based on demographics (age, sex, race) and logistics (location of pickup, transport times, transport distance, time of day, and destination location).
  • The finalized data was then passed off to a medical student at the University of California, San Diego for publication.

  • Obtained tumor histology slides from 52 patients with HCC and stained the slides with an antibody against three immune biomarkers with the greatest prognostic value.
