Dynamic and experienced Veterinary Assistant. Proficient in venipuncture and IV catheter placement, I effectively triage cases while maintaining a calm demeanor under pressure. Committed to client education and communication, I ensure optimal care for pets and peace of mind for their owners. I seek to continue my education within this field life-long and continue seeking positions to help me extend my comfort zone, improve my abilities, and learn as much as I can.
As part of the ER team, I am comfortable triaging to determine the level of emergency. Regularly placing IV catheters, drawing blood, running diagnostics, and communicating quickly, but efficiently, with doctors and staff. Assisted veterinarians with treatments and client communication. Remaining calm under pressure and with stressed clients is a big part of the job!
Veterinary assistant for rooms and surgery. Regularly in charge of taking histories, typing notes, drawing blood, placing IV catheters, performing cystocentesis, taking radiographs, and administering medications (IV, SQ, IM). As part of a surgical team, I regularly induce anesthesia, intubate, and monitor anesthesia, along with performing dental radiographs, scaling, and polishing.
I worked for a small veterinary practice for nearly 10 years, starting the day the clinic opened. We built a practice centering around the concept of being an intermediary between GP and ER, with a strong focus on hospitalization, critical cases, second opinions, and standard GP wellness. I learned everything I was able to and developed a love for emergency and critical care medicine, along with a comfort level for working under pressure, and I remained there until I moved to North Carolina last year.
Learned vaccine protocols, basic blood draw techniques, IV catheter placements, and the basis of being a line of communication and education between the veterinary clinic and clients. I became comfortable giving vaccines, along with assorted prescribed injections.
