*Note- following the housing crash, this company ended up going bankrupt and closing all construction operations, as it was folding myself and 2 teammates saw the writing on the wall and we, each started our own individual small trades companies.
*Note - when I took on the frozen food department at this particular walmart between three frozen coolers, including meat , bakery and the frozen food department, as well as an ice cream cooler, they had more than fifty two pallets, full of frozen backstock in various forms of being outdate or damaged.
When walmart's automatic ordering system would bring in a new truck every single day, you could not physically put the order into your freezer because it was full to the door and three pallets high ,stacked in the steel.
It took me four months to get through all of the frozen and damaged product , fix three double sided aisles , and six full sided frozen end caps, while trying to maintain the company's very strict plannogram and forcing out product from the back room so new stock could actually get into the coolers.
In this process of constantly working this excessive amount of freight by myself, as they could not get the two part timers who were allotted for my department hired for that position, I ended up having an emergency hernia surgery.
The surgery ended up having complications that put me out for a number of months, that the store, the company , and all of the management team was kept appraised of once a week through my healing, however, corporate changed all three store managers at the same time ,and they were sent to various other locations, when they left, they never informed new management of my situation, so when I returned to work, I was labeled as job abandonment, which was inevitably fixed when corporate was able to get ahold of those managers and the documents that I had submitted for being out for this emergency surgery, but by that time, several months had gone by, and I had already gained employment elsewhere since they wouldn't put me back to work until that was fixed.
This was a terrible waste of the time effort and literal pain that I put into fixing what was years of neglect in this department.
*Note- I worked this merchandising position for a friend who was a full time merchandiser, and his father was a vice president for Keebler cookies at this point in time for our area, while simultaneously being the back room receiver for Riverhead King Kullen for extra income.
* Note this was a fantastic company to work for, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I likely as long as the company had remained in business would have retired here, however, consistent issues between the company and the union on my last year with them resulted in so much time. Bing delegated to union disputes and the company, not wanting to work with the union demands, it was just too much consistently lost revenue for me.
Note * I had moved to this company when it had purchased A&P grocery company, making a lateral transfer , however, after months of them failing to pay my union contracted overnight differential, I opted to go to work for a company that had family members in it and for an increase in salary and supposedly better union representation.
