Manager, Statewide Economic Development Team

  • Manage statewide economic development team for an electric utility providing services to more than 70 cities and towns across the state of North Carolina
  • Major responsibilities include attraction and siting of business and industry, identification and development of industrial sites, delivery of power supply and other related advisory services, as well as project management for new industrial projects
  • During tenure in current position have been a part of teams that have attracted and sited foreign and domestic investment projects in the tens of billions of dollars in sectors including clean energy, life science, food processing and chemicals

Economic Development Officer

City of Greenville

  • Appointed in 2012 as the City of Greenville’s first Economic Development Officer and in that capacity organized and managed the City’s Office of Economic Development
  • During tenure in Greenville developed the City’s strategic economic plan, established a business visitation and retention program, established incentive programs for small business and larger industry, led target sector recruitment efforts and managed expansion and new location projects in life science, technology and advanced manufacturing
  • Selected in 2004 after national search to manage the City’s urban revitalization initiatives
  • In this capacity worked with private developers on commercial projects, created and managed economic incentive programs, managed large public infrastructure projects, developed marketing plans to promote the City’s interests to businesses and developers
  • Appointed in 1999 as Project Manager for the City’s rebuilding and revitalization efforts following Hurricane Floyd
  • In this capacity managed 11 person staff in a $180 million recovery project spanning four years
  • Major duties included the negotiation and purchase of some 400 properties, relocation of tenants under the guidelines of the Uniform Relocation Act, renovation of residential structures, development of new housing, and large scale grant management of federal, state and local funds
  • Hired into the City’s land development review section where major responsibilities included staffing the Board of Adjustment and the Planning & Zoning Commission, review of building, sign and business permits along with enforcement and interpretation of the zoning, subdivision and historic preservation ordinances
