Riverside Sunrise Co-hub Coordinator

  • I am a co-hub coordinator, or co-president, of a Sunrise hub at Riverside High School with two of my peers.
  • The Sunrise Movement is an organization that seeks to end the climate crises through political advocacy, volunteer work, and campaigning.
  • Riverside opened a hub this year where we focus on a Green New Deal for communities.
  • As co-hub coordinator, I have organized meetings, spoken at a School Board meeting, and a city council meeting, along with participating in service projects with the Durham School of the Arts Sunrise hub.

Riverside Junior Classical League President

  • I am currently the president of Riverside's Junior Classical League chapter.
  • The Junior Classical League is a national organization founded in 1936, with over 45,000 members, and is the largest classics organization today.
  • Junior classical league focus on Latin and Greek games and "to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity."
  • They hold national conventions, and there are chapters for each state that hold their own conventions.
  • Riversides Chapter is a member of the NCJCL and NJCL.
  • We participate in quiz bowl and other competitions.
  • At this year's state convention, Riverside won 3rd place sweepstakes, over 20 awards, 2nd place in novice quiz bowl, and 3rd place in intermediate quiz bowl.
  • I have won six first-place awards, a novice quiz bowl championship, and a third-place intermediate championship.
  • As president, I have continued to help Riverside win and grow our community.
  • I have committed much of my time to being a valuable president and leader.

Head Soccer Referee

  • Started as an assistant referee for ages 13 and under. I worked alongside adults and other kids my age to manage the game.
  • I worked up to being the head referee for ages 10 and under. Most of the time, I was only an official at the game and would regulate it alone.
  • As a referee, I would organize the players and work to ensure a fair and safe experience. I would assist coaches in game day preparation, such as finding rosters, etc.
  • Also learned to adapt to complicated situations, lower tensions among parents and players, and make calls with safety as the first priority.

  • I was a member of the Riverside JV soccer team in the fall of 2022 and 2023.
  • I was the captain of the team for the 2023 season.

  • I have run indoor track in the winter of 2022, 2023, and 2024, along with spring track in 2023.
  • I was a varsity 400-meter runner in 2023.
  • I am currently a member of Riverside's varsity men's volleyball team.
  • Sports have taught me about teamwork, leadership, and working with others.
  • I have also learned about self-improvement.
