From my times as an athlete I have learned that there are levels to the game of sports, especially football. While I was not the biggest or fastest, I was smarter than most of the people I competed against. I would study film of pro and collegiate athletes to find what separates them. I would also study opponents to find their strengths and weaknesses.
From my times as a Camp Counselor, I have learned that there are also levels to people. Some kids who I have worked with did not have the best home situations or family life. These kids would come in with smiles on their faces, but in certain moments you could tell things weren't always going great for them. Once you realize these things, it can help you approach the kid better and with more understanding.
I was an Assistant Lead Counselor at Camp Ravensnest. I would work from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday for 7 weeks.
I would teach first through fifth graders the techniques and fundamentals of the offensive and defensive side of the football. It would range from teaching them how to carry the football to how to tackle properly. These kids are the future of the sport and we want to send them off with a good knowledge of the skills and basics of football. We also make sure that they know how to act outside of football by teaching about respecting others and the right from the wrong.
