At this job I work as a lab assistant and phlebotomist, where I am constantly working as a phlebotomist drawing GI patients for the day. I also work with a variety of specimens, from stools to pap smears and urines.

• Maintained documentation on tests performed in lab.
• Prepared samples for shipping and disposed of bodily fluids in proper containers.
• Contacted physicians, nursing stations, or reference laboratories for resolution assistance with unusual test orders.
• Tracked collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
• Operated and performed preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.

• Working at AUNC I am constantly working with a majority of men and some woman patients. At this job I see about 60-80 within a day.
• Promoted blood specimen integrity for laboratory testing using accurate selection of collection tubes and correct technique.

• Counseled patients to ease fears, explain procedures and enhance cooperation during blood draws.
• Located veins suitable for puncture to draw blood using sterilized needles, vials and other equipment.
• Observed patient for unusual reactions or events to take appropriate action under established guidelines.
• Stocked phlebotomy cart or carrier with appropriate supplies.
• Used personal protective equipment correctly to protect coworkers and patients.
